Kansas City Royals Star Pitcher Continues Astonishing 2024 Campaign
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Royals Starting Pitcher Seth Lugo had a career day on the road Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels. Lugo surrendered one run over eight innings of work and set a career-high with 12 strikeouts as the Royals won 4-2. Lugo’s strong start led to the Royals taking two of three games from the Angels. Lugo is having a career season with the Royals. Lugo is tied for second in the league in victories (six) and is third in the league with an ERA of 1.66. He is also 10th in the league with a WHIP of 0.96.

Lugo has surrendered two earned runs or fewer in all but one of his starts this season. Will Lugo be able to sustain his strong start to the 2024 season?

Seth Lugo Career Summary

Lugo made his Major League Baseball debut in 2016 with the New York Mets. He spent the first seven seasons of his career in New York before spending 2023 as a member of the San Diego Padres. Lugo only spent one season in San Diego as he signed with the Kansas City Royals in December of 2023. He signed a three-year $45 million contract with Kansas City this offseason.

Lugo has never been named an MLB All-Star in his career, but with a start like this, he has set himself up very well to be named one.

Lugo has a career record of 46-32 with an ERA of 3.34.

Kansas City Royals Season Summary

The Kansas City Royals have been one of the most surprising teams in Major League Baseball this season. They are 25-17, half a game back of the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central. Kansas City entered the regular season with very low expectations, and the fact they have gotten off to such a strong start is nothing short of shocking. It has been a rough decade for the Kansas City Royals as they have not made the MLB Playoffs since they won the World Series in 2015.

The Royals have gotten off to such a strong start with nothing more than an average offense. They are in the middle of the pack in a variety of offensive categories including batting average, runs scored, and home runs. On the basepaths and in the field is where the Kansas Royals have been extraordinary this season. Kansas City is sixth in the league in both stolen bases and fielding percentage.

A strong pitching staff has also been a driving force behind a surprising 2024 start. Kanas City is eighth in ERA, has surrendered the third-fewest home runs, and is third in Quality Starts.

When Will Seth Lugo Take The Mound Next?

Lugo’s next scheduled start is on Saturday, May 18, against the Oakland Athletics. Both Lugo and the Kansas City Royals will look to continue playing well and shocking the baseball world.
